 9th Annual Horse Festival at UA

9th Annual University of Arkansas Horse Festival held March 28 and 29 was a huge success.

 UofA Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Team
The UofA Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Team began 2008 with a trip to the Arizona National in Phoenix, where they evaluated livestock and came away with Reserve champion honors.
 John Frank Pendergrass receives "friend of the department" award for his service to the UA Department of Animal Science

John Frank Pendergrass, president of Pendergrass Cattle Company and also Pendergrass Investment Company, was presented the "friend of the department" award by Dr. Keith Lusby, head of Animal Science Department at the University of Arkansas, during the Arkansas Cattlemen's Convention in Springdale.

 Dr. Jason Apple receives Man of the Year Award from Northwest Arkansas Cattlemen's Association (NWACA)

Dr. Jason K. Apple, ANSC Department faculty member, was named 2008 Man of the Year by the Northwest Arkansas Cattlemen's Association (NWACA) at an awards banquet held on December 6, 2008 in Northwest AR. Read more at news/events page.

 The Women's Committee from Washington County wins top honors at Farm Bureau's 74th Annual Conference

Jeannie Hornsby, ANSC Department employee and member of the Washington County Farm Bureau Women's Committee, accepts an award December 4 on behalf of the women's committee, from Stanley Reed, AR Farm Bureau President. Each year, AR Farm Bureau honors the county women's committee that exhibits exemplary support of its  county organization, activities and goals. Read more at the news/events page.

 8th Annual Razorback Roundup held in November Was a Success!

Another successful Razorback Roundup was held November 15 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena in Fayetteville AR. Sixty students from the D.E. King Equine Program, numerous staff and dozens of volunteers produced and conducted the sale which included more than 600 guests. Read more at news/events page.

 ANSC Department hosts its annual holiday party December 5

The annual holiday party for the Department of Animal Science was held Friday, December 5, in the atrium of the AFLS building on the UofA campus.  Students, faculty and staff, including their families as well as retirees from the department, joined in the festivities.  Animal Science Department hosts field day for Heritage High School students

ANSC Department held a field day on November 5 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena in Fayetteville. The event was attended by 56 students & four teachers from Heritage High School, Rogers, AR.

 

 Animal Science Department student receives Pork Industry Scholarship

ANSC Department student Arthur Leal received the 2008 Pork Industry Scholarship award in the amount of $2,500. Leal is one of only 19 recipients from 14 different colleges across the U.S. to receive the scholarship.

 ANSC Department provides a hearty breakfast to students


ANSC Department staff prepared a hearty breakfast of bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, eggs, fresh fruit and juice for hungry students making their way to classes in or near AFLS building Friday morning.

 ANSC Department personnel receive awards for service

Employee service awards were presented October 7 at Alltel Ballroom on the University of Arkansas campus.

 ANSC Department presents UA alumnus Weldon Winn with "Friend of the Department" award

Keith Lusby, Animal Science department head at the University of Arkansas, presented a "Friend of the Department" award to Weldon Wynn on September 11 at the Lincoln County Fair.

 ANSC Department sanctioned clubs gathered for annual "Meet and Greet"

Block and Bridle and Pre-Vet clubs kicked off the fall 2008 semester with a "meet and greet" picnic the evening of September 10 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena.

Animal Science Department Dedicates Parker Portrait

The Animal Science Department dedicated a portrait for the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center Aug. 12 to commemorate the PLR Farms/J.O. and Marie Parker Endowed Scholarship. The $30,000 endowment, provided by the Parkers' estate, provides need-based scholarships for students of Bumpers College with an interest in the beef cattle industry.

 Palomino World Show

UA students and staff from the D.E.King Equine Program attended the Palomino World Show on July 24 in Tulsa.

 Dr. Jason Apple receives Meats Research Award

Dr. Jason K. Apple received the Meats Research Award from the American Society of Animal Science at the national meeting held in Indianapolis in July. 

 The Meat Science Quiz Bowl Team in ANSC Department holds fundraiser

A fundraiser for Dr. Janeal Yancey's Quiz Bowl team was held Thursday, May 1.

 Rosenkrans receives Gold Medal Award for mentoring

Dr. Charles Rosenkrans, Jr., professor of animal science at the University of Arkansas, received the 2008 faculty Gold Medal Award from the office of Post-Graduate Fellowships.

Entertainment abounds for those attending the largest fundraiser of the year for the equine program at the University of Arkansas - held March 28 and 29 -  at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena in Fayetteville, AR.

 Department of Animal Science Awards and Scholarship Luncheon

The Department of Animal Science hosted its annual awards and scholarship luncheon April 16 in the AFLS atrium on the University of Arkansas campus.

 Bumpers College Student Ambassadors provide breakfast for Animal Science Department faculty and staff

A Walk-A-Thon to benefit The Michelle Wilson Scholarship Fund and the Lupus Foundation was held Saturday,  April 19 on the Fayetteville campus. 

 Faculty Retreat

All 26 faculty from the Department of Animal Science were in attendance at a retreat held at Mt. Magazine Lodge in August. Read more >>

 University of AR Block & Bridle Club hosted its first ever “AG Olympics”

The event, open to any UA club, organization or team of five friends, consisted of ANSC graduate students, Farmhouse Fraternity, Sigma Alpha Sorority, and ANSC faculty and staff members.

 Success

Animal Science students had great success in achieving their goals of admission to veterinary schools this year.
