Dr. Jason Apple receives Meats Research Award
Dr. Jason K. Apple received the Meats Research Award from the American Society of Animal Science at the national meeting held in Indianapolis in July.
Apple joined the Department as an Assistant Professor in 1995, where he was instrumental in reviving the meats program. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001 and to Professor in 2007. Dr. Apple's research has focused on improving the quality, consistency, safety and value of beef and pork. He has authored/co-authored 48 peer-reviewed papers, 86 abstracts, one book chapter and 67 research reports and extension publications. He has been an invited speaker to many national and international conferences. He has served on the American Meat Science Association Board of Directors, received the National Pork Board Innovation in Swine Research Award, the American Meat Science Association Achievement Award and the American Society of Animal Science Southern Section Outstanding Young Scientist – Research Award. He served the Journal of Animal Science, first on the Editorial board and then as Animal Products Division Editor and Meat Science Section Editor. He and co-workers have been awarded 27 competitive grants totaling over $1 million. Congratulations to Dr. Apple on this award.
