The Department has a very limited number of ½ time graduate assistantships available. Your may indicate on your application form if you: 1) require an assistantship, 2) need an assistantship, or 3) do not require support. Assistantships are extremely limited and competitive and are only awarded to the most exceptional applicants. Assistantships may also become available to specific faculty through grant funding, but these are not predictable and may become available at any time. Please be aware that if you indicate on the application cover sheet that you require an assistantship and no faculty member in the department is able or willing to offer you an assistantship, your application for admission will be denied.
Students entering a program of study towards a M.S. degree must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better to be eligible for a graduate research or teaching assistantship.
Students pursuing the Ph.D. degree must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on all previous graduate work taken in the completion of a M.S. degree or 3.2 or better if they do not possess an M.S. degree when they enter the program.
The University of Arkansas Graduate School home page has additional information on possible methods of funding your graduate program. The link to that page is http://grad.uark.edu/. Once you get to that page, click Funding Your Degree on the middle left side of that page for more information on possible funding sources.
