FEED MILLING MANAGEMENT
Tyson Foods has a great scholarship and career program to attract talented kids into feed mill management. Students will attend the U of A or other schools for their first two years and then transfer the Dept. of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State to complete a degree in Feed Science and Management.
Kansas State is one of only two Departments in the country that prepares grain milling managers.
Tysons will pay scholarships to freshmen and sophomores and then pay $12,000 per year for the third and fourth years at K-State. From this, the student will pay their out-of-state tuition. Few professions can guarantee employment at a very good salary, but feed milling management is one that comes close. The goal is to attract students from communities near established feed mills (Tysons has 36 mills), get them trained and then hire them to go home to a high-paying profession.
If you are interested, please contact your advisor. Drs. Pohlman and Rorie have the detailed information on the program. Also, if students would like the opportunity to tour a large-scale mill, they should contact their advisors and we can schedule a tour in Springdale.
