The University of Arkansas livestock judging team was named the Champion Team Overall at the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo on Feb. 14.

Animal Science Faculty Honored with Merit Award Animal Science Faculty Honored with Merit Award

Dr. Dirk Philipp, was recently honored with a Merit award, for his work in sustainable forage production and livestock management to minimize environmental impact. The award was presented by the American Forage and Grassland Council (AFGC.)


  • Senator Tom Cotton Seeking Summer Internship Applications. Senator Tom Cotton announced he is seeking summer interns in his Washington, D.C. office and his state offices in Little Rock, Jonesboro, and Springdale. Internships will be offered in two sessions: May 26, 2015 – June 26, 2015 and June 29, 2015 – July 31, 2015. Interns will have the opportunity to experience the daily operations of Senator Cotton’s office and witness the legislative process firsthand. Internships are unpaid and available to all college students. Depending on their college requirements, students may be able to receive academic credit for their service.  Interested applicants should send a resume and cover letter to and specify their desired office location. All applications must be received by March 13, 2015. 


  • The Department of Animal Science has a new opening for a: Specialty Livestock/Youth Education Specialist. This position requires a Ph.D. preferred in Animal Science or related field with a background in livestock production and management. A strong background in speciality animals such as dairy cattle, sheep, goats (hair and milk), rabbits and other specialty livestock as assigned is desirable. The successful candidate must be able to work with adult and youth audiences. Experience in adult education is desired. Experience in 4-H programs is preferred. The potential candidate must demonstrate an ability to work with groups and individuals. Excellent oral and written communication skills are important. Must be able to interpret and apply research results and must be a team player.  Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and work with diverse groups preferred. Planning and implementing programs, demonstrations and educational material to disseminate unbiased research information is a key responsibility of this position.  The person in this position will be expected to conduct scholarly activity (grant writing, publish abstracts, etc.). Demonstrated experience in organization and conduct of events, judging and related activities in animal science preferred. Valid driving license and vehicle with liability insurance, and ability to drive required.

  •  The Department of Animal Science has a new opening for an: Assistant/Associate Professor – Veterinarian reports to the Department Head – Animal Science via the Associate Department Head. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing statewide leadership in the development and implementation of Extension veterinary educational programs designed to improve the health and bio-security of livestock. This position will provide leadership for the 4-H veterinary science program  and other 4-H veterinary science activities. The position is 100% Extension with responsibilities in adult and youth education programs, within the Department of Animal Science and located at the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service State Office in Little Rock.
